A striking and unusual saucer dish made at the Thomas Wolfe Staffordshire Factory soon after his move from Liverpool to establish what has for a long time been known as Factory Z. Typically both potting and decration are very fine and both style and subject intriguing. The subject is known as “The Watchers on the shore” but I have been unable to establish their motivation. The timing would be not long after Trafalgar and the black rings, cartouches and anchors may be significant. Puce vermicelli and ochre outlines add a final touch. 7.5 inch diameter undamaged.

A coffee can which I have attributed to James Pennington circa 1768 – 73 and therefore at Park Lane factory, in part on the strength of plate 4.30 in Maurice Hillis’s compendium in view of the consistent ingredient elements and painting of the border. It has attractive lines but is not perfect; it has a hairline crack which has been stabilised and there is a small piece of the glaze missing at the base from firing. As a result it is modestly priced.
